Education Fund Student Testimony – Shalmar

Shalmar, Excel Secondary Learning Centre Level 11

Our school fees are actually lower when compared to international schools or even public schools. But my parents’ salaries are also not very good, and they have to send money back to my grandparents in Myanmar.

Every month, my family struggles to pay our school fees. When my sister and I were once admitted to the hospital, my mom couldn’t work for at least two weeks as she had to take care of us. So, the income, which was already low, decreased even further for that month.

When I received the school sponsorship, I was very grateful and glad that my parents no longer had to worry about my school fees. Even if it is RM240 per month, that money is worth 100,000 Kyat in Myanmar’s currency.

Knowing that someone is genuinely sponsoring me motivates me to work harder in my studies than ever before in order not to let them (sponsors) down. It literally motivates me to do better in school.
