Executive Director & Education Director
The work of ElShaddai Centre contributed directly to the advancement of the 2016-2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda, which Malaysia adopted. Recognizing that the dignity of the individual is fundamental and development goals should be inclusive of all people from every community dwelling in the land, we endeavour to reach those who are left furthest behind, namely the stateless, the irregular migrants and the refugees.
As a faith-based humanitarian organization, we are commanded to love our neighbours as we love ourselves and are decreed to be the salt of the earth and light of the world (Mat 5: 14, 16). Both salt and light are common but positive essentials in nation-building. We have a moral responsibility to respond to injustice and, to walk with the traumatized and helpless, to love and educate our neighbor’s children as we love and educate our own.
2023 has been a blessed year for ElShaddai with stable post-pandemic recovery and steady expansion of the various works in West and East Malaysia. The ElShaddai Eco-System provides holistic care and intervention that rehabilitates and empowers individuals and communities. The work receives recognition from our faith communities, organizations and agencies locally and internationally. We are humbled to be invited to share our experiences in platforms like the Intentional Disciple Making Conference (IDMC), Asia Pacific AOG Congress 2023 in Singapore, the Global Diaspora Network Consultation 2023 in Jeju and the Malaysia SDG Conference 2023/2024. We have recently concluded our very own National Diaspora Symposium (NDS), where ElShaddai Centre is the lead organizer. The NDS is an effort to promote awareness, to mobilize resources through effective collaboration to sustainably impact diaspora communities and contribute positively to building an inclusive society.
We believe that “strength lies in differences, not in similarities,” quoting Stephen Covey. Looking beyond Malaysians to include the international communities, diversity undeniably is the most beautiful mosaic of Malaysian society. It is a pity if we do not appreciate the richness presented uniquely to us in culture, arts, food and languages that are so enchanting. Migrants are supposed to be transient on transition, but many refugees and irregular migrants live here for many years, even up to two or three generations. A proper immigration and legal framework with effective implementation and regulation is most necessary to advance the SDG. In the meantime, NGOs and faith communities like the ElShaddai Centre step in to fill the gap, providing limited humanitarian and developmental services. The reality is that there are still many who are left behind without access to the most basic services and amenities.
OUR VISION
OUR MISSION
We are endorsed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Malaysia. We provide 4 core services to the communities.
Help the marginalized and displaced families to rebuild their lives. The effect of the pandemic has been devastating for our whole society, especially to the most vulnerable among us. The families ElShaddai Centre work with are now seeking to rebuild their lives with dignity.
