Embracing the Youth: ElShaddai Centre’s Talk on Statelessness at Pin Hwa Secondary School

ElShaddai Centre had the privilege of visiting Pin Hwa School on 26th April 2024 to speak to their students about statelessness as a critical issue. This event was part of our wider Embrace campaign in sync with World Refugee Day, sought to raise awareness and enhance the young minds’ knowledge about the predicaments faced by stateless people in Malaysia.

Inspiring Advocates for Change

During the school assembly, our team members Ms. Annabella Ching and Ms. Cassie Seow took us through this educative session. They highlighted the reality of living without any nationhood for these individuals every day, stressing why they should be part of humanity.

The presentation was very powerful in sharing some stories and statistics that brought out an often-forgotten issue concerning statelessness. How it denies them basic rights such as education, health care and employment; how this affects their dignity and future life?

Building Awareness and Advocacy

ElShaddai Centre’s hope is to inspire young people, which will create a chain reaction of concern that extends beyond the walls of school. It is essential to educate the next generation about statelessness since they are the leaders of tomorrow who can change society into an inclusive and fair one.

We are extremely thankful to Pin Hwa School for their warm welcome as well as giving us a platform to discuss such an important issue. Their commitment towards promoting social awareness and empathy among students is admirable. It is through such cooperative efforts that we can dare dream of a more peaceful and all-inclusive nation.

The Next Move

ElShaddai Centre is committed to being a voice for stateless persons and increasing awareness about their situation. We opine that education and sensitization are the initial points of reference towards a qualitative turnaround in the lives of stateless individuals. Our target is to build a well-informed sympathy among people in school, community institutions that will help in solving statelessness.Together, we can change things, aiming at a world where all people can live in dignity and hope.
