I left and joined one of ElShaddai Centre’s secondary learning centres. I have been there ever since. I enjoy my teaching, and it was a joy to see their desire to learn and a greater joy to see their smiles when they understood. God being my helper I will continue to teach. I have actually been a teacher for 30+ years in the government secondary schools. What is the difference between refugee kids and our own kids? They are the same in many ways. Some are naughty, some are slow, some are brilliant. Most are average, well-behaved kids. The difference in most of them is that they have a hunger to learn and are grateful to be given a chance. They are respectful and polite.
“Teacher, let me carry your bag for you”
“ Good morning, sir, how are you?”
My wife became the principal in ElShaddai Centre’s secondary learning centres and they paid her RM2000 a month as salary. We decided we did not need that money. Our government pensions are more than enough. So we gifted that RM2000 to ElShaddai Sabah. That is our small gift to those poor stateless kids in Sabah. I am inspired by the selfless brothers and sisters who have become God’s hands and feet to reach out to these stateless kids. I am inspired when my wife shares with me how God provides premises (with air con!) and volunteer teachers. All in answer to our prayer. Hallelujah.
I see ElShaddai Centre work as a holistic way of outreach to share the love of God. ElShaddai Centre’s staff visit the communities’ homes, which is a deeper way of caring beyond the classroom. I personally have not visited any home, but I really am inspired and believe in the home visits by the team. I am glad to be a small part of this holistic mission to the displaced peoples.
If you are reading this, you can go beyond reading. Take some action. Volunteer, join ElShaddai Centre, or give. The blessings are all yours when you become a part of this God sanctioned work. God bless you.
