ElShaddai Shelter for Refugees
As one of the renowned organizations serving among the refugees, UNHCR and other organizations often refer “children at risk”, single mothers with kids or some battered families to us. At ElShaddai these referrals are brought to shelters that give them short-term accommodation. These are mostly families who are facing unexpected issues with their legal status application or those deceived by agents involved in illegal human trafficking.
We have provided temporary shelter to many such families and individuals. We have had had housed 17 Myanmar children, an Armenian family of 4, an Iranian family of 4, and 5 Rohingya boys (since October 2017). We also house a few individuals who were previously with Malaysian Care and Boaz Homes, and support them by finding them jobs while they try to build up their life again.
We anticipate in time to come, there would be more referrals. Our main purpose is to provide a safe home environment for children/families at risk, mainly referred by UNHCR, churches and some homeless children. The support we provide includes:
ElShaddai Relief Support for Refugees
I. Short-Term Provisions Support
II. Emergency Relief Fund
Beside lodging, we also provide food and other provisions to needy families when our visitation teams go on regular home visits or visit those families in emergency situations. Our purpose is to provide the needy families lacking food because of some unexpected emergency situations that include the sudden loss of jobs due to illness, accidents or other uncontrollable circumstances. Some basic provisions include rice, flour, sugar, salt, cooking oil, beans or dhal, canned food, some vegetables, and milk powder as well as diapers for infants or young children.
Refugees and other displaced or marginalized communities tend to have complicated real-life issues due to their circumstances in Malaysia. In ElShaddai, with limited resources, we try our best to provide immediate and short-term relief for individuals/families facing unexpected emergency situations, which normally include sudden death in the family, unexpected critical/permanent illness, emergency surgical operation and/or hospitalization. Our purpose is to ease the burden of these vulnerable communities by journeying with them at the most difficult times.
