ElShaddai Sabah 2025

This year, ElShaddai Sabah continues to expand experiencing both challenges and meaningful progress. From growing student enrolments to new partnerships and volunteer-led community programs, our learning centres and the committed teachers who work there have steadily
improved in 2025.

The ElShaddai Sabah team launched a new learning centre, Kumbang Learning Centre. Sadly, at the same time, two centres, Cenderakasih Learning Centre (Sandakan) and Pulau Banggi Learning Centre, are officially closed in July. The closures came after the lead teacher in Pulau Banggi Centre was reassigned, and student numbers in Cenderakasih Centre declined. The good news is that two existing centres, Kampung Saga Learning Centre and Kampung Contoh Learning Centre, underwent major expansions this year. The Kampung Saga extension was made possible through a partnership with Tzu Chi, Taiwan, while the Kampung Contoh building expansion was supported by Agape Vision and a team from Singapore. These new spaces have given more children the opportunity to learn in safe, vibrant classrooms.

At the Kuala Alam Mesra Learning Centre, two teachers stepped down earlier this year. Because of the lack of manpower, the three top-performing students from last year had to step in and were appointed as new teachers, teaching in the mornings and continuing their Year 4 studies in the afternoons. We truly believe that witnessing their performances will inspire and motivate the other students to strive for greatness. As the number of students continues to rise in Kuala Alam Mesra, Kampung Contoh, and Kampung Saga Learning Centres, we have also added one new teacher to each Learning Centre.

We are grateful to partner with SIB Church in Semporna, with Pastor Hilda joining us in May to help oversee the Bangau-Bangau Learning Centre, providing guidance and spiritual care for both students and staff. A special word of thanks also goes to Sister
Bee Leng, who travelled all the way from Kuala Lumpur to conduct a series of teacher training workshops. Her lessons have provided our teachers with innovative teaching methods, boosting their confidence.

Despite logistical challenges, all centres successfully conducted their exams according to schedule. Overall, the teachers are now better adhering to the Scheme of Work, showing greater responsibility and proactivity in ensuring the syllabus is fully implemented.

Beyond the classrooms, ElShaddai Sabah continues to establish bridges by forming ties with the community and conducting outreach services within the fields of social work and healthcare. This also included the programs run by the volunteers from this year. Agape Vision organised a school holiday children’s program at Kuala Alam Mesra, Kampung Contoh, and Kampung Saga Learning Centres. After the morning sessions, the volunteers also joined hands to paint murals and beautify the new Kampung Contoh building. Several visiting mission teams conducted children’s ministries and home visitations, bringing encouragement and practical support to local families. In collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), ElShaddai Sabah facilitated vaccination campaigns that provided measles and rubella vaccines to students across our centres to ensure better health access for vulnerable children. Together, these programs have reached and positively impacted almost 400 children and family members in 2025.

Plans for 2026
As we move closer to the new year, ElShaddai Sabah is making preparations to construct two more learning centres to meet the ever increasing demand for education in the stateless community in Sabah. We aim to continue to provide access to learning, to promote the development of teachers, and to empower every kid with hope for the future.
