My Story of Being a Burmese Community Teacher at ALP Learning Centre

When I first joined ElShaddai Centre, I was with the Social Work team, and focused on the MyanmarCommunity-Based Protection. I had no experienceand quickly recognized that they were training merather than just hiring me. As I became acquaintedwith ElShaddai Centre, not only were my eyesgradually opened, my English listening and speakingskills also improved.

After six months, I was appointed a teacher at a learning centre. It was another opportunity to bettermyself. I started by observing the teachers in JalanPasar (Kindergarten) for one week. The teachers werevery kind to me, and I was happy there. After a week,I was posted to the Accelerated Learning Program(ALP) Center.

I have been teaching at the new school for five months, and I have received a lot of kindness and compassionfrom my fellow teachers. They are more than justcolleagues; they are like family, especially how thehead teacher, Ms. Ajunta, guides and mentors thestaff and students. Her discipline to the students andstaff is very clear and consistent, and she is also goodat giving teaching guidance. She taught me how toteach the children effectively, control the class andconstructively discipline the students.

Two weeks ago, we moved to a new place called ALPBerkeley. The new school is very neat and tidy withupdated school equipment. Because everythingin the school is new, the students also appear tobe more enthusiastic about their studies. With athorough and consistent school administration, both the teachers and students are excited and feelpositive about going to school.

Let me share my little testimony here. I used to feel pain and get depressed and stressed easily. I wastraumatized for a long time. At that time, my situationwas not good, and sometimes I couldn’t sleepbecause I was scared during night time. Gradually,I couldn’t bear the stress anymore, and even a trivialmatter became difficult. I had no idea where thatcame from, and I didn’t want to share it with anyone. Eventually, the head teacher in school, Teacher Ajunta, noticed it, and she asked what was happening to me.She prayed for me, encouraged me and shared Bibleverses with me.

God’s miracle came upon me, and now, I am no longer depressed and traumatized! I can sleep well duringnighttime; I’ve been set free!

ALP is my home; all my colleagues are like my motherand sisters. It’s not only a school where I get a lot ofexperience, but also a place of love- a place where Ican feel at home. I really appreciate my head teacher,Ajunta, who constantly prays and comforts me.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share my working experience, and special thanks to all myElShaddai Centre colleagues for all their support andprayers. ElShaddai Centre not only paved the wayfor my life, but I now also have a future for my career.I aspire to be a good teacher and a good socialworker. I want to continue teaching and encouragingthose who are depressed and feeling lost like me.
