ElShaddai has been actively engaging with the Afghan communities in Ampang since 2013. From mobile clinics to online classes; from setting up social enterprises like the sewing centre, gemstone craft and Life2Life table to uplifting the quality of education in the Afghan Learning Centre; from awareness training to mental health support, we found every opportunity to engage and empower the community.
NewRoots Youth Club – from a volunteer
We ran youth computer classes for boys and girls. The students attend classes at different times. Two volunteers took turn to teach them on animation and coding. The students were able to complete a small project at the end of each lesson.
Volunteering at NewRoots gave me purpose. Helping the youth gained confidence and improved in their learning gave me much joy. Knowing their struggles, I am often deeply touched by their hopeful smiles and sense of humour.
