Community Care Initiatives

The Kajang Project reflects ElShaddai Centre’s vision of “restoring dignity and
equipping for the future through education and care”, offering holistic support to refugees and stateless individuals, with a growing and significant impact among refugees, especially the Arab communities in Kajang. Through integrated education,
empowerment, and community-care initiatives, the project addresses both
immediate needs and long-term development.
Language education remains a foundational pillar across the Kajang Learning Centre (KLC), Kajang Community Centre (KCC), and the Cambodian Centre. Mandarin, Malay, and English classes equip learners with essential skills to navigate daily life, access services, and build confidence. These language programmes provide more than academic instruction;they foster social integration, self-worth, and resilience.
Children and youth from Arab refugee backgrounds benefit from non-formal
education and after-school programmes that offer structured learning environments, emotional support, and positive character formation. These initiatives help young people remain engaged in learning despite displacement-related challenges, nurturing discipline, responsibility, and healthy social behaviour. Women’s empowerment is another key expression of ElShaddai’s holistic mission. Tailored language classes for women create safe and supportive spaces for learning, enabling participants to gain confidence, independence, and greater participation in family and community life.
Community care and relational outreach further strengthen impact. Festive celebrations, health screenings, and home visits build trust and reinforce a sense of belonging within the refugee communities, reflecting ElShaddai’s commitment to presence-based and relationship-centred services.
Recent program expansions deepen this impact. The KCC conducts practical trainings such as the Gemstone Workshop and DIY T-Shirt Workshop, providing pathways toward self-reliance, creativity, and potential income generation. A partnership with MarHabTech has also introduced an English learning program, enhancing language proficiency among Arab learners, with plans to expand to additional centres.
The Kajang Football Academy represents a significant milestone in youth engagement within the refugee communities. Now fully operational, the academy offers regular training sessions supported by volunteer coaches and a structured
curriculum. Beyond football skills, the program integrates ElShaddai’s values-based approach, emphasising discipline, teamwork, respect, perseverance, and emotional regulation. Leadership opportunities, mentoring, and reflection sessions help young participants connect lessons on the field to real-life challenges.
While challenges remain—particularly in funding, resources, and long-term volunteer commitment—ElShaddai Centre = continues to strengthen partnerships with churches, businesses, and community stakeholders. Through shared dedication and collaboration, the Kajang Project is creating lasting, transformative impact among the displaced communities, empowering individuals and families to move toward hope, stability, and a dignified future.
