Community Story 2025

Jun
69-year-old Jun first came to Malaysia in 1998 after separating from her husband. With two young children to support, she left her home country in search of work and a better future for her family. She worked tirelessly, first as a domestic helper, then in restaurants, later as a cleaner, and most recently, in her old age, as a roadside nasi lemak seller in Kuala Lumpur. She worked under someone who promised to pay RM25 per day, but sadly, the promised compensation never materialised.

Recently, Jun’s health began to deteriorate. She suffered from diabetes, back pain, and frequent headaches. Due to her financial limitations, was unable to seek proper medical treatment. She rented a small room for RM200 per month and lived alone in Malaysia. Although she had worked hard for many years to support her children, they were unable to help her financially. Lonely and longing for home, Jun deeply missed her children and hoped to return to Indonesia. She felt trapped with no resources and no way home.

ElShaddai stepped in to support her. We first brought her to the Indonesian Embassy to obtain a travel document. Then worked with the Indonesian community to raise funds to pay the immigration compound for overstaying. The ICC leaders accompanied her. ElShaddai also assisted in purchasing herferry ticketto Indonesia.

On 30 August, ElShaddai staff accompanied Jun to Port Dickson, where she finally departed for Indonesia. After 25 long years of living as an irregular migrant in Malaysia, working tirelessly and sacrificing her entire youth for her children, Jun returned home safely and was reunited with her family. Although she could not enjoy her younger years with her children, she can now spend her old age in peace, surrounded by the family she worked so hard to support.
